Say it ani't so!

At the end of the month my favorite small book store in South Pasadena will be closing due to the fact that the rent has been rasied up so high the owner can't afford to paid the new rent. It's truly a shame for the place sells used book at a great cost plus it's one shoppe that you're not just a faceless customer but a person where the owner knows your first name and sometimes will share a nice conversation. But progress is progress I guess (it's not always improvement that's for sure!). I saw many cool little bookstore, cafes and shoppes closed down when they wanted to make Melrose in West Hollywood more hip and cool. Only bringing in more expensive chic-chic shoppes that will sell a simple sweat-shirt at a cost up to $200 , a cafe where finding parking is a nightmare, plus the food is over-price and not that tasty and bars where you will be charged $18.00 for a bloodly martini! (Rob me!)

The sale is great there though. If you buy one paper back the next one is free and 40% off already marked down hard covers. Still, sad.

Progress is not always improvement - good choice of words

What a total bummer. The little stores are getting so hammered as a result of big box stores.

Speaking of high rents, remember to vote NO on Proposition 98. It appears to be about eminent domain but it will also phase out rent-control.

What a shame ... it looks a nice character filled building.

I really love independent bookshops. There was one in my area that was closed just a couple of months ago, and I quite miss it, although I was not a regular customer. Should have been; it would have helped them out ...

It makes me so sad to see wonderful little shops die.
