Write on....

Is there a person in this town that doesn't have or is working on a screenplay? Where ever I go I see people carrying notebooks or laptops working on their screenplay working on that new Great American Dream, selling that multi dollar screenplay! Today at yoga class the woman who works at the studio says she's taking time off so she can work on her script. There is another guy who works there that is always working on a screenplay and that's just to name two. Not only are the workers at the studio have screenplays but the teachers and students as well. Whatever happen to the Great American Novel. Even one of my favorite authors is spending too much time in Hollywood instead of working on writing another book , sigh, his books are sheer magic!

i guess there is more money in selling a screenplay to a major studio than selling a novel to a book publisher. and sadly, too many people are simply looking to make money, rather than create art. i wonder how much effect that has on what they actually write too?

You're talking about Neil Gaiman, right?

Well, I guess where there is money there is a rat race...

There are too many stories of "lucky nobodies" who sold their script and are now living big for people to give up. Of course, the odds are still stacked against them, but you just never know, do you?

Guess I'm busted! "Stardust" is an enchanting, poetic novel (get the graphic version with the beautiful art work of Charles Vess) but the film is entertaining at best, mindless eye candy at worst. Still, no poetry or enchantment. Can't blame a talented writer for wanting to be successful in Hollywood, the money and fame of the film industry can be seductive, still what good does it do an artist to sell his soul?
